Islam as a religion is very fascinating because I feel that it is a very passionate and powerful religion. I was born and raised a catholic, so it was kind of a shock for my devout catholic family who felt I am denouncing my own religion. Between Christianity and Islam I explained that there is a very thin line as we share the same archangel who came to earth from heaven as God’s messenger. Which were compiled and sealed as the Holy Book of Q’uran, it was the Archangel Gabriel who recited the words of God to the prophet Mohammad. Coming down from heaven, heaven inform us about the coming birth of Jesus, the Son of God, based on Christianity. The Muslim people follow the five pillars of islam, which are shahada, salaat, zakat, sawm, and the hajj. Considered to be the framework and guidelines on how to properly observe the religion of Islam is the five pillars of islam. The creed is shahada, the 5 daily prayers are salat, the act of almsgiving is zakat, the salat is the fasting during Ramadan, and lastly the hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca. To follow these pillars of islam are required of every Muslim as these are the foundational support of what Islam is all about, its beliefs and practices. The shahada is the proclamation by all Muslims that “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger”. The ritual five prayers is the salaat that is done every day starting at dawn, midday, noon, afternoon, sunset, and nightfall. The zakat is the charity aspect of islam, which required all Muslims to give or help the poor and the needy. Which means that all Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink from sunrise to sunset during this period, the sawm is the rigorous fasting during the Ramadan.
